Expect hot, dry weather from June to September. Kardamaina has a Mediterranean climate, with long sunny summers, a windy period in July and August, and mild, wetter winters.

Weather by season

Season Typical weather
Spring (Apr to May) Mild, some rain early on; the sea is cool
Summer (Jun to Aug) Hot and dry, strong sun, breezy afternoons
Autumn (Sep to Oct) Warm sea, calm days, first rains in late October
Winter (Nov to Mar) Mild but wet and windy; most tourist services closed

Getting around

  • On foot. The town is flat and compact.
  • Local bus (KTEL). Links Kardamaina with Kos town and some villages. Services are less frequent outside the high season.
  • Taxi. Useful for the airport and evening trips. Agree a price first.
  • Car or scooter. The easiest way to reach beaches and villages. Park in marked spaces and read the rental contract on insurance.

Practical tips

  • Sun. Wear a hat, use high-factor sunscreen and drink plenty of water; the midday sun is strong.
  • Money. Cards are widely accepted, but carry some cash for small shops and tavernas.
  • Water. Many visitors buy bottled water; ask your hotel about tap water.
  • Dress. Cover shoulders and knees when entering churches and monasteries, including those on Nisyros.
  • Language. Greek is the local language; English is widely used in the resort.

Keep one flexible day. Wind and heat can change plans for boat trips. A spare day lets you swap a boat day for a beach day.
